Born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico Daniela and her family came to the United States ready to build a better life for themselves. After finishing high school in three years, Daniela got admitted to UC Davis where she completed a double bachelor's degree in Economics and Communication. Shortly after graduating, Daniela took on a full-time position at the AB540 and Undocumented Student Center as part of the founding staff crew. In this role, Daniela focused her energy on developing holistic mentorship and professional development programs specifically designed for undocumented students at UC Davis.
Working to support, advocate for and empower underrepresented students in higher education, solidified Daniela's interest in her career and motivated her to pursue a Master's Degree in Higher Education Leadership. She completed her master's degree at Sacramento State while working as a full-time academic advisor for the Psychology, Philosophy, Cognitive Science and Science and Technology Studies department. During her time in the Psychology Department, she enhanced the undergraduate experience of over 3000 students by streamlining departmental Study Abroad, Orientation and Mandatory Advising processes. In addition to the quality of her work, Daniela's dedication and commitment to student success allowed her to be globally recognized by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) as the winner of the 2019 NACADA Global Awards Outstanding New Advisor Primary Role.
In her free time, Daniela enjoys waking up at 4:44 AM to lift weights, practice gratitude, meditate or enjoy a strong cup of coffee with her life partner and UC Davis grad, Eric Telles.
