First-Year Mandatory Advising

One-on-one conversation

First-Year Mandatory Advising

All CBS first-year (freshmen and transfer) students are required to attend a First-Year Mandatory Advising appointment with their major advisor. The purpose of First-Year Mandatory Advising is to give first-year students an opportunity to meet individually with an academic advisor for their major. During this one-on-one meeting, students can ask questions about major requirements, GE requirements, plan their year's schedule, and learn more about resources at UC Davis.

First Year Mandatory Advising must be completed between October 1, 2018 and February 8, 2019. Students who met with an advisor prior to October 1, 2018 will still need to complete a Mandatory Advising appointment. Additionally, students who plan to change to a major outside of the College of Biological Sciences, must still complete a Mandatory Advising appointment with a BASC advisor. Students need to complete the Mandatory Advising Questionnaire when scheduling an appointment.

Transfer students are encouraged to schedule an appointment during fall quarter! Transfer students may have completed an Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) and BASC advisors will review the IGETC completion during the Mandatory Advising appointment.

Students who have not completed their Mandatory Advising by February 8, 2019 will have a registration hold placed on their record. This hold will prevent Spring 2019 course registration.

Neither a drop-in appointment nor a meeting with a peer advisor will complete this requirement.

We look forward to seeing you at the BASC soon!
