First-Year Mandatory Advising

First-Year Mandatory Advising

All CBS first-year (freshmen and transfer) students are required to attend First-Year Mandatory Advising (MA). The purpose of MA is to give first-year students an opportunity to meet with a BASC advisor, understand academic expectations, and discover more ways to excel at UC Davis. During MA, students can ask questions about major and GE requirements, plan their year's schedule, and learn more about resources at UC Davis.

MA must be completed between October 7, 2019 and February 7, 2020. Students who have met with an advisor prior to October 7, 2019 will still need to complete MA. Additionally, students who plan to change to a major outside of the College of Biological Sciences must still complete MA within BASC.

Students who have not completed MA by February 7, 2020 will have a registration hold placed on their record. This hold will prevent spring 2020 course registration. Neither Express Advising, nor a meeting with a peer advisor will complete this requirement.

Freshman students will be required to complete one small group MA workshop with a BASC advisor lasting 50 minutes.

Transfer students will be required to complete one individual advising appointment with a BASC advisor. Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment during fall quarter! Transfer students may have completed an Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), and a BASC advisor will review the IGETC completion during the MA appointment. Please note, students will need to complete the MA Questionnaire when scheduling an appointment.

We look forward to seeing you at the BASC soon!
