Alyssa Parsons started her journey to BMCDB as a first-generation college student from Rohnert Park, California. It took a matter of minutes for her to fall in love with UC Davis, where she graduated with a B.A. in Psychology in 2012. From 2014 to 2021, she was a member of the Human Development and Family Studies Ph.D. program at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where she was an award-winning graduate student instructor. As Alyssa’s interests transitioned toward advising, student advocacy, and equity and inclusion, she made the decision to graduate with a master’s degree and return to California. Alyssa is thrilled to be back at her alma mater and will not hesitate to wax poetic about it at length. She may be found around Davis performing in musicals, making tremendous quantities of pickles, or tending to the local chickens. Alyssa is the 2023 recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Program Coordinator Award, the Graduate Student Association Outstanding Staff Award, and the Outstanding New Advisor Award.
