Ashley DuVal, Senior Scientist, Genetics and Breeding, Mars Wrigley, presents "Understanding and harnessing rootstock scion interactions in cacao".
Ashley has worked on the genetics and breeding of cacao with Mars Wrigley for 9 years. Her research utilizes the diverse germplasm in the Cacao Greenhouses in Davis to characterize responses to abiotic stress, and innovations around nursery practices that can bring healthier and more productive planting materials to farmers. She co-instructs PLS-13, “Chocolate, covered: the past, present and future of Theobroma cacao” in the fall quarter. She holds a Bachelor of Science from UC Berkeley, a Masters from the Yale School of the Environment, and completed her PhD in Horticulture at the University of Florida.
