Did you know that turpentine paint solvent, essential oils, and the flavoring in your foods all come from the same class of molecules?

Join us on campus or Zoom to learn how Dr. Justin Siegel is using Natural Language Processing to enhance our understanding of terpenes, uncovering underexplored areas and their various applications.

WHAT: Free event with an engaging talk followed by Q&A with Dr. Justin Siegel

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This event is open to all, whether you are a part of the university community or the public.

FEATURED SPEAKER:
Justin Siegel, PhD, Associate Professor of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Medicine and Faculty Director of the Innovation Institute for Food and Health (IIFH) at the University of California, Davis.

In the world of natural molecules, terpenes are one of the largest, most studied, and widely commercially utilized classes. Among other qualities, terpenes are known for their strong and often pleasant odors, which we encounter in essential oils and food flavorings..

Dr. Siegel's work aims to illuminate approaches for the isolation and utilization of high-value terpenes, expanding their footprint in the therapeutics, pesticides, flavors, and materials markets.

Lunch will be provided for in-person attendees.
