Event Date

The UC Davis Botanical Conservatory is kicking off a new year of special Night at the Conservatory events, offering attendees the chance to connect with experienced horticulturists and plant enthusiasts through engaging talks and demonstrations on rare, unusual, and even common plants. These events are perfect for anyone curious about plants, from seasoned gardeners to budding green thumbs.

The Conservatory’s first event of the season is next week, on Thursday, November 21, at 6:00 PM. Conservatory volunteer Bruce Ritter will present “All About Aroids,” a deep dive into the fascinating world of this diverse plant family. Aroids, part of the Araceae family, include beloved houseplants like philodendrons, anthuriums, and monsteras, as well as exotic species rarely seen outside tropical habitats. Known for their striking foliage and unique flower structures, aroids thrive in a variety of environments, making them both captivating and accessible to growers.

Bruce will share practical tips for successfully growing aroids, including insights on their light, soil, and humidity preferences, as well as guidance on propagation techniques. Whether you’re new to aroids or looking to expand your collection, this session promises to inspire and inform. Don’t miss the chance to learn about these incredible plants in a fun and interactive setting!
