Dean Lavelle

Dean O. Lavelle is a business technical support analyst and provides technology and research computing support for faculty, staff, and students in the College of Biological Sciences. He entered UC Davis as a freshman in the Fall of 1989, graduated with a B.S. in genetics and never left. Later he received a Ph.D. in the Genetics Graduate Group (now the Integrative Genetics and Genomics Graduate Group) which he now supports. With extensive experience in academic and scientific computing, Dean helps both administrators and researchers navigate hardware acquisitions, workstation deployment, data storage and backup strategies, cybersecurity concerns, and day-to-day technical challenges. Known for his collaborative, service-oriented approach, Dean works closely with departments across the College of Biological Sciences and the broader UC Davis community to support research, teaching, and outreach initiatives.
